Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have BGP?

Yes. You can select the BGP add-on during checkout. Once your order is paid, we’ll email setup instructions and peering details (IPv4/IPv6).

Do you offer downstreaming?

Yes. We support downstream announcements with a one-time setup fee to cover initial configuration. You can add this on the order form, and we’ll send instructions by email after payment.

What is FREMIX?

FREMIX is the Fremont Internet Exchange. It enables networks in Fremont to interconnect and exchange traffic (peer) locally for lower latency and improved performance.

With an appropriate add-on, eligible customers can establish peering sessions at FREMIX for select traffic flows.

What is an Internet Exchange (IX)?

An IX is a layer‑2 switching fabric where networks (ISPs, content providers, enterprises) interconnect to peer and exchange traffic directly, reducing transit costs and latency.

To peer at an IX, you typically need your own ASN and IP space, plus BGP configured. If you’re new to peering, our team can advise on best practices.

What is a KVM VPS?

KVM is a hardware-virtualized VPS. You get your own kernel and a fully isolated environment similar to a dedicated server, with the flexibility of virtual machines.

Do I get full root access?

Yes. Every VPS comes with full root (administrator) access so you can install and configure anything you need.

What does a /64 of IPv6 mean?

Each VPS includes a dedicated /64 IPv6 subnet (18 quintillion addresses). You can assign many IPv6 addresses internally without additional cost.

Is my data safe?

We use RAID 1 on our hypervisors and take separate offsite backups every 12 hours. However, no provider can guarantee data protection—please maintain your own backups for important data.

Do you support rDNS?

Yes. You can set rDNS (PTR records) for both IPv4 and IPv6 directly in our panel. Changes typically propagate within minutes.

What’s the difference between a snapshot and a backup?

Snapshots are point-in-time images of your VPS taken on the same storage—fast to create/restore and great for quick rollbacks before changes.

Backups are separate copies you create and keep on-site with us for fast recovery/restores. Separately, HYEHOST performs provider offsite backups every 12 hours, which are independent of your plan’s backup allocation. We still recommend maintaining your own external backups for critical data.
